Several hundred German brewing companies demanded help from the German government in connection with the losses incurred, according to zakon.kz.
The restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic have pushed producers to the brink of bankruptcy, according to a statement by the German Brewers Association (Deutscher Brauer-Bund, DBB), signed by representatives of 300 companies.
Due to the current situation, we were unable to deliver our draft beer to gastronomic customers. That is why today we have distributed over 2,500 liters of beer to everyone in the courtyard of the brewery.
In addition, they had to destroy millions of liters of their products. One of the reasons, in particular, they called the closure of public catering establishments by the authorities and indicated that “the end of the second lockdown, which has been in effect since the beginning of November 2020, is not expected.”
The damage to the breweries exceeded millions of euros, and the industry lost support as these businesses are not considered gastronomic outlets.
In total, 1.5 thousand enterprises were affected. The association noted that these breweries survived world crises and wars, but now they are coming to an end and not even through their fault.
The website of the German Breweries Association says that the circulation participants produce 95 percent of German beer.
