Nutritionist Hannah Bray spoke about foods that help maintain brain health and reduce the risk of dementia, reports zakon.kz with reference to RIA Novosti.

According to the specialist, the Mediterranean diet is considered the best diet for maintaining cognitive functions, which includes a large amount of fruits and vegetables, salads with olive oil, as well as fish, rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Bray noted that the brain is “vulnerable to the damaging effects of free radicals and oxidative stress,” so it is necessary to consume as many antioxidants as possible. In particular, among fruits and berries, you should choose those that have the most intense color, for example, black grapes and blueberries.

In addition, the nutritionist advised to include fermented foods in the diet: yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut and kombucha.

She also recommended monitoring blood sugar levels and adding cinnamon to meals to help lower it.
