Biden called the condition for lifting sanctions on Iran

The United States will not lift sanctions on Iran to bring it back to the negotiating table on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for Tehran’s nuclear program. This was stated by American President Joe Biden, reports zakon.kz with reference to TASS.

The head of state was asked if he would take the first step and lift the anti-Iranian sanctions in order to return Tehran to negotiations on the JCPOA.

No, Biden replied.

He agreed that Iran should take the first step and stop uranium enrichment.

On February 7, Iranian leader and spiritual leader Ali Khamenei said that Washington should first lift sanctions to return Tehran to a nuclear deal, rather than impose new conditions. Khamenei added that the US and European countries have no right to set conditions on Iran, “since they trampled on all their promises.”

Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the head of the White House intends to seek a longer-term deal with Iran on the basis of the JCPOA on the nuclear program, as well as a solution to Tehran’s missile problem. He stressed that the Washington administration will consult with US allies and partners as part of future steps towards Iran.

On December 2, 2020, the Iranian Constitutional Guardian Council approved the previously adopted Mejlis bill, which obliges the government to increase the degree of uranium enrichment. Parliament gave the government two months to waive the IAEA’s additional protocol if the other parties to the nuclear deal did not return to full compliance with their obligations. According to lawmakers, the measures included in the draft will help lift sanctions against Tehran.
