In Turkmenistan, hundreds of dead seals and thousands of fish were thrown on the coast of the Caspian Sea, reports zakon.kz with reference to MediazonaCA.

An officer of the Maritime Border Service, who wished to remain anonymous, informed Azatlyk about this.

Seal carcasses have been dumped on the coast in the cities of Turkmenbashi and Kiyanly of the Balkan velayat since December last year. Since then, naval sailors have continued to catch dead seals from the Caspian, and there are already hundreds of them. There are also many dead fish and birds on the coast.

According to the interlocutor of the publication, the Turkmen authorities are trying to hide the mass death of marine mammals and find out the reasons for what happened.

The bosses strictly warn us to keep our mouths shut. Scientists from Ashgabat are trying to find out what caused the death of the seals, some kind of virus or the release of waste from local factories, – said the Turkmen border guard.
