Is it possible to get infected with two variants of coronavirus at the same time
Two variants of the coronavirus can be in the body of one person at once, scientists believe, reports zakon.kz.
Is this a dangerous situation, the virologist of the N.F. Gamalei Alexander Butenko.
The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, has an increased mutation rate, which is why its variations are recorded in different regions of the world. The virologist drew attention to the fact that this can lead to extremely unusual situations when one person can become infected with two variants of the coronavirus.
There are interesting published observations that one person in the body can have two different variants of the coronavirus. These are either mutations that occur during the course of the disease, or a person has contracted two variants. virologist of the N.F. Gamalei Alexander Butenko
According to him, it is not yet completely clear how the proximity of different variants of coronavirus in one organism can affect the course of the disease and whether it will affect it at all.
So far, there is only speculation, but not evidence, that the modified virus can cause a more severe or milder course of the disease, or that new variants spread faster. These new genotypes still fit within the same SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virologist specified.
To protect against double penetration of any variations of the coronavirus, Butenko recommends getting vaccinated.
So far, this variety of coronavirus that is being detected does not cause a critical situation for the spread of infection and for the potential of vaccines prepared last year. This cannot yet affect the effectiveness of vaccination. It is believed that vaccinations can protect against all variants of the virus that exist, the virologist concluded.
