For two months dozens of Aktobe families have been living without a roof over their heads. The roof of the hostel was completely destroyed by fire, reports zakon.kz.

According to the Astana TV channel, the local authorities promised to resolve the issue, but the repairs have not begun. People live in damp, cold apartments and await spring with horror, when melt water will simply flood the apartments.

Aizhan Esbolatova lives on the fifth floor of a small-family hostel. After the November fire, it is impossible to stay in the apartment. Plaster is falling off the ceiling, the room is damp, but there is no point in making repairs. The house has no roof, and during the thaw all the water just pours inside.

I bought some materials in the hope that I was about to make repairs. Repair is useless now. It is noted that the burnt roof was new. Just a couple of years ago, it was renovated under a thermal modernization program. Residents are still paying the loan. Immediately after the fire, local authorities promised that until the roof was restored, residents would be exempted from payments, and repairs would be done at the expense of sponsors, but everything turned out differently.

We were told that there is no need to pay for the roof for thermal modernization yet, but receipts come, the tenants pay, I don’t know. What are they paying for? We are waiting for help, what can we do here ourselves? Nobody gives us any answers, ”says one of the residents.

In turn, the housing inspection department says that they have suspended billing for thermal modernization, and the amount that will be needed to restore the roof has been calculated. According to the estimate, 25 million tenge is needed. The budget does not provide for such funds, and sponsors are in no hurry to help the victims of the fire.
