Biathlon World Championship among juniors will be held in Kazakhstan

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) approved the holding of the World Biathlon Championship among juniors from 4 to 12 March 2023 in the city of Shchuchinsk at the Republican Ski Base of Kazakhstan, reports zakon.kz.

The Biathlon Union of Kazakhstan (SBK) has been closely cooperating with the International Biathlon Union for a long time.

In 2019, during the World Championships, the Kazakh delegation led by President of the SBK Ermek Kizatov met with the President of the IBU Olle Dalin in the city of Ă–stersund (Sweden).

During the meeting, an application was presented to host the IBU Junior World Championship in Kazakhstan.

We confirm that just yesterday the technical committee and members of the board of the International Biathlon Union made a decision to hold the Junior World Championship in the city of Shchuchinsk. Thanks to the support of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) in matters of interaction with international sports organizations, we managed to get this unique opportunity to hold a prestigious and large-scale event in Kazakhstan. Athletes from more than 50 countries are expected to participate. The national biathlon team of Kazakhstan annually takes part in all stages of the World Cup and the IBU Cup.

The national team in the women’s biathlon relay according to the results of the VII Stage of the World Cup today occupies the 14th line, and the leader of the team Galina Vishnevskaya took the 9th place according to the results of the individual race among women.

The ski and biathlon base in the city of Schuchinsk was opened in 2018, was certified by the IBU and received an “A” category for holding international competitions.
