Ocqueoc Falls in Rogers City, Michigan

If your interests are less in the city and more in the wilderness, why not take a trip to Ocqueoc Falls just outside Rogers City? Not only can you experience the beauty of these magical waterfalls, but there is also a campsite nearby where you can stay overnight. You’ll have to be quick, though, as there are only 15 pitches for tents and small RVs, which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

You can hike to the falls along the Bicentennial Pathway and even go trout fishing if you feel like it. However, make sure you have the right equipment to cook it! There are very basic amenities on site including safe toilets and a hand pump for water. So it could be a campfire cooked trout for dinner!

Sleeping Bear Dunes in Lake Michigan

The Sleeping Bear Dunes are located along a 35 mile stretch of the east shore of Lake Michigan. This park is known for its incredible scenery with its beaches and forests and of course the sand dune formations. Also nearby are the North and South Manitou Islands, which are accessible by ferry.

There are 20 miles of hiking trails as well as an 1871 lighthouse to visit. And if you’re a history buff, there are plenty of tours to take, as well as a museum to visit and learn all about the rich history of the dunes and the surrounding area.

Goblin Valley State Park in Green River, Utah

Don’t be put off by the name – Goblin Valley is one of the most unique sandstone formations you will see anywhere in the world. In fact, its landscape is often compared to that of Mars!
