According to the Bureau of National Statistics, by the end of 2020, 8.7 million people were employed in the economy of the republic. Among the employed population, 6.7 million people (76.3% of the total number of employed) were employed. The number of unemployed according to the methodology of the International Labor Organization (that is, people who now have no profitable occupation (job), who are looking for work and are ready to start work) amounted to 453 thousand people, the unemployment rate – 4.9%.

By the end of 2020, the labor market is showing some signs of recovery. The number of temporarily unemployed due to the suspension of activities compared to the 3rd quarter of 2020 decreased by 93.7%, and amounted to 8.3 thousand people. Of these, 36% are education workers, 17.5% are trade, 12.3% are the provision of accommodation and food services. Compared to the third quarter of 2020, the number of employees who worked less hours at their main job decreased by 36.2% due to a decrease in the volume of work (part-time work) and the initiative of the employer, the Bureau for National Statistics reported.

Interesting fact: officially at the end of January 2021, 172.3 thousand people were registered with the employment authorities as unemployed. The share of registered unemployed was 1.9% of the labor force.
